Watch Your Next Bite, Is It a High Cholesterol Food?
We know that cholesterol is bad for us. But it is also true that all the cholesterol required by us is produced by our own body, so we do not have to consume any cholesterol rich food. This is how we end up with high cholesterol levels. Knowing the high cholesterol foods will help us then.
While plant products are healthy, animal products are rich in saturated fat or the bad fat which has an adverse affect on your heart. Food containing polyunsaturated fat and monounsaturated fat (the good fat) can help lower your bad cholesterol.
All the tasty and tempting stuff like chips, cookies, cakes and like contain the bad fat including hydrogenated vegetable oils. Not to forget the salami, sausages, yummy chinese take aways, full fat yoghurt and other dairy products.
Did you know that seafood such as crab, shrimp and sardines contain high cholesterol which should be avoided. Same goes with veal, egg yolks, turkey, coconut oil, palm oil, brain, goose, duck and liver.
Some of the favorites such as dimsims, meat mince, cream and all coconut recipes are unhealthy. At all times avoid food rich in saturated fat which can over work your liver to produce harmful LDL levels.
Get your facts right and know the difference in the food you consume. Your daily cholesterol consumption should not exceed 300mg for a healthy person and limit to 200mg (equal to one egg) if you are battling cholesterol.
It is highly advisable to get plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables along with whole grains to bump up your good cholesterol. Fish is also a rich source, make sure its not battered and deep fried.
So where is the healthy stuff? In soybean products, tofu, kidney beans, dried peas, garlic, spinach, tuna in water and fat free milk. Check the saturated and trans fat content on the packaging rather than the total fat content.
Try and snack on plain nuts such as peanuts, cashews, brazilnuts and hazelnuts. Order wholegrain bread at the cafe and buy lean meat at the supermarket. Take the first step and stop your arteries from clogging.
Including foods such as nuts, legumes and cereals are very beneficial. This includes rice, pasta and dried peas. Substitute your cooking oil with olive oil. Staying fit with ideal weight will certainly help.
