What is holistic living? This is a question to which many people are seeking the answer. Contrary to common belief, this is more a way of living than a particular healing or treatment system. It involves principles that, when applied, result in perfect and compete inner balance. The holistic system believes that the body is a self-sufficient and highly sophisticated system. Health can be achieved and sustained, provided the three major inputs into this system are correct, i.e. exercise, food and beliefs.

Holistic living is no longer a mystical or unachievable goal. It is in fact, not a goal at all. Holistic education on alternative medicine choices would help you to understand that this is something you do on an ongoing basis. You need to promote and sustain perfect inner balance so the body can function optimally. In this way, you are also promoting self-healing, a process not possible without achieving perfect inner balance. There are three major factors that can upset this “perfect balance” and these are your beliefs, the food you eat and the amount of exercise you do regularly.

The food that you eat gives the body raw materials for regeneration, growth and energy for movement. Therefore, the quality of your life very much depends upon what you eat, since the body can only work with the raw materials, or fuel, that you provide. Exercise is required to keep the body functioning in optimal condition as well; something very similar to the maintenance of a vehicle, which can break down unless used at regular intervals. Lastly, holistic living involves your thoughts. If you are pessimistic and perceive everything as threat, then this will stress your mind, resulting in massive imbalances in the body, which in turn can cause illness.

Holistic living is not a hard or impossible objective. You, or anyone who wants it, can achieve it; not as a goal, but as a continuous ongoing process. Mental and physical natural health is not a destination but a continuous daily effort, where food, exercise and your beliefs need to be kept in perfect balance. It is important to understand that if any one of these three factors is found lacking, then the system inside the body becomes unbalanced, which translates into illness, which will require holistic healing.

To sum it up, holistic living means staying healthy and natural. The holistic system is created on the premise that the human body can and will heal itself if it achieves perfect inner balance. This is definitely not something that is achieved once in a life time as a prize; rather, it is a method of living in perfect tune with the inner self (the body’s different organs and mind) and outer self (nature and overall surrounding environment). According to holistic education, you need to promote the perfect balance inside your body and mind, as well as with its connection to the environment. You cannot stay healthy if your thoughts are negatively influenced by your environment, just as you cannot stay healthy if you eat poorly and do not exercise your body.

In short, holistic living is nothing but bringing your body to its all natural state and ensuring that it maintains its natural health. This means that you need to achieve perfect inner and outer balance. The inner balance represents the functioning of all your organs, which is achieved by correct eating and exercise; outer balance is achieved through meditation and adaptation to your environment.
