Causes of Yeast Infection
Ask any woman who has had a yeast infection why they got it and they seldom will know. But she will be able to tell you about the symptoms, the discomfort and most likely knows how to cure a yeast infection. Men and women alike often know the cure for the current flare up, but to be able to cure yeast infections for life you really need to understand the causes. Unfortunately, those who don’t learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.
Yeast infections are simply irritations of mucous membranes throughout the body in places like the vagina, intestines, skin or mouth. This infection causes irritation and swelling of the affected area(s). The cause of yeast infections is an over-abundance of a fungus known as candidiasis. Thrush and vaginitis are also caused by this candida family of fungi.
What Do I Need To Know About The Cause Of Yeast Infections?
You must understand what causes yeast infections to stop getting them in the future. The candida fungus seeks out and attacks vulnerable areas of the body. Women taking antibiotics or steroid medications are often the major target of yeast infections. This type of medication is often responsible for the vagina developing too much candida. Actually, candida is a fungus commonly found in the vagina; it’s only when the fungus explodes into an over-abundance that it causes a yeast infection. Antibiotics and steroids for some women are required for them to stay healthy. Women who know they’re prone to yeast infections when they must take these medications head off a candida overflow by using a yeast infection medication at the same time.
Another cause of yeast infections is wearing damp underclothing or swimsuits during hot weather. Candida thrives in warm, damp environments. Everything Candida needs to flourish is provided by perspiration in the vaginal area or a damp swimsuit. In hot, damp weather, it is always a good idea to wear dry underwear, use wetness absorbing powder in your underwear and change your swimsuit immediately after swimming.
For women, another cause of yeast infections is clothing that is too tight. Clothing that’s too tight-fitting causes vaginal irritation. Candida flourishes on the irritated vaginal skin. Once the irritation begins, so does the full-blown yeast infection. It makes a lot of sense for women who are susceptible to yeast infections to avoid tight-fitting clothing whenever possible.
Tight clothing is not the only source of irritations that cause yeast infections. Some bath products have been known to cause irritated skin and will start a woman on the path to a yeast infection. Although many of these products smell nice and can make the skin feel soft, they aren’t worth the risk for many women. If a certain bath product has a history of causing you irritated skin then avoid them because we know that the candida loves irritations. Many will suggest a milk-bath product that only contains a small amount of soap.
Finally, it’s vitally important that women do not use douche products. Most physicians agree that using douches is not helpful or necessary for maintaining vaginal health. Nature will maintain your help and doesn’t need assistance from harsh douche products.
