Vibration training is a topic that has seen a huge amount of discussion in recent months, particularly as the technique grows in popularity throughout the country. It’s been suggested that vibration training can be used to increase weight loss, circulation, muscle strength and flexibility, whilst reducing cellulite and time needed to recover from injury.

A number of people however now also suggest that using a vibration exercise machine can hugely increase BMD (bone mineral density), whilst also increasing leg strength and general power. Some people also claim that these machines can increase a persons’ vertical jump height (although i can’t imagine too many applications for this).

Increasing bone mineral density suggests that vibration training may potentially being an excellent resource for improving osteoporosis, which is a genuine problem both internationally and in the United Kingdom.

Osteoporosis refers to the abnormal loss of bone tissue, caused by a decrease in the bones mineral density. This can result in porous, incredibly fragile bones with are for more at risk from fractures and breakages.

Osteoporosis is particularly prevalent in the elderly, meaning only extremely low-impact rehabilitation techniques can be employed. By increasing bone mineral density through genuinely low-impact techniques, vibration training could become a primary and important treatement for osteoporosis.

Since it has been demonstrated that vibration exercise can increase bone mineral density, NASA have begun looking into the use of vibration training to reduce bone loss in astronauts, adding more weight to the consideration of vibration machines as genuine and appropriate treatment for osteoporosis.

If you have (or are worried about) osteoporosis, talk to your physician who will be able to tailor a course of action to your own personal situation. Mention vibration training and look into the possibility of purchasing one of the many vibration machines available on the current market, you never know, you could drastically improve your quality of life with a relatively small investment.
